Agriculture, Forestry, Animal Livestock Breeding and Fishery
With temperate climatic conditions, Zhaoyuan is noted for its excellent agricultural land, forestry, fruits and vegetables producing, aquaculture and animal livestock breeding. Wheat, corn, beans and peanuts, fruits and vegetables are well produced in this city, among which the annual output of peanuts, wheat and corn takes a large percent compared with other cities in the whole country.

As one of the major growing areas of Yantai apples, which are very famous in the world, Zhaoyuan is famous for its fruit producing in the country. Fruits, such as apples,pears,haws,grapes,persimmons,cherries,chestnut,genkgos,etc.,are high-yield here. The planting area of Fuji apples approaches 24,000 hectares with output of 800,000 metric tons yearly. Four brands of Fuji apples as Zhaoyuan,Luguan,Guoguan and Fuguan are named National Famous Brand and this is the very reason for Zhaoyuan winning the title of "Town of China Fuji Apple". Fuji apples produced in this city are welcome in both abroad and domestic markets. Large quantities of Fuji apples are exported to overseas markets, such as Hongkong ,Taiwan,Singapore,Spain,etc.

With fertile hills and pasture, Zhaoyuan is developed in livestock producing. There are many large farms of cattle,sheep,goat,pig,chicken,etc.Great quantity of livestock products are supplied for local and foreign markets every year.

Along the 16km coastline, there are 17,000 hectares of shallow water area, among which there are 12,000 hectares area that is suitable for aquaculture. A great variety of aquaculture produces, such as prawns, sea cucumbers,crabs,scallops,fishes,etc.,are well farmed here.

Mining
Zhaoyuan is known for its rich mineral resources and gold deposits in China. It is the largest gold mining area in China with a mining history of more than 2,000 years. There are 16 great-scale gold mines. The annual gold output of the city, which has been the first one in the country yearly, is over 800,000 ounces. The city has established an entire gold industry system which includes prospecting,separation,smelting,refine processing and gold machinery manufacturing. Gold mining has become the backbone of the city's economy.

Other mineral resources, such as silver, copper, quartz, sulfur, graphite, fluorspar, granite, marble etc., are also rich in the region. Among them, the silver mine is the second largest one in China's silver mines. All of the products are sold well both in domestic and abroad.

Manufacturing
There are more than 1,000 enterprises with a total of 170,000 employees. Among them, 78 enterprises with 31,000 employees are municipal and 916 enterprises with 100,000 employees are under administration of town and township.

Zhaoyuan has established an excellent industry system which is composed of gold processing, machinery manufacturing,chemical,textile,electronic and construction material producing, food industry, power generating and supplying etc. The manufactured products cover more than 5,000 varieties, among which 70 products are nominated as National Quality Products, Ministerial Quality Products and Provincial Quality Products respectively. There are 28 enterprises nominated as "new&hi-tech enterprise". More than 50 enterprises produce new&hi-tech products.

The gold processing industry is mainly engaged in gold refining, electronic materials, jewelry & handicraft products manufacturing.

The machinery industry mainly covers machine of gold mining, separation and smelting, auto parts (gears, gearboxes and cranks etc.), machine tools parts, automatic meters and instruments manufacturing. The biggest gear manufacturing factory of Shandong is here.

The products of chemical industry mainly include tires, fine chemical products, silica gel，medicine, pesticide etc.

Electronic industry is focus on electronic materials and components manufacturing. The major products are gold bonding wire used for IC circuits and components, printed circuit boards, electrolytic copper foil and copper clad laminated sheets used for computer mainboards, etc. Most of these products mentioned above are of provincial fine quality and key produces in the national market.

The textile industry mainly produces knitting garments. The biggest knitting garments factory in Shandong Province is located in Zhaoyuan, and all of its products are for export.

The products of handicraft industry mainly include gold and silver ornaments, embroidery, hand crocheted articles, soft toys etc. Most of the products are exported to the international market.

There are many products in light industry such as electronic massage chairs, all kinds of locks and tools, physiotherapy & body building appliances, and batteries.50% of the above are for export.

The products of the food industry mainly include vermicelli, soya bean milk powder, wine, alcoholic beverages, fruit & vegetable products, etc. Renowned for its vermicelli-making industry, Zhaoyuan is the birthplace and the major producing area of Longkou Vermicelli, which is very famous in the international market and has a processing history of 300 years. Longkou Vermicelli is exported to over 100 countries/regions. The yearly export amount of vermicelli is more than 80% of the national total. All these factors have won for Zhaoyuan the title of "Home of Longkou Vermicelli".

Building materials include portland cement, white and color cement, tiles, granite and other products. 30% of the products are exported abroad.

Power generating and supply industry develops fast in recent years. There is one heat&power plant, two transformer substations of 220 KV, 4 transformer substations of 110KVA and 15 transformer substations of 35KVA in Zhaoyuan. The power supply is sufficient and effective.

Service and Tourism
Zhaoyuan has sufficient service establishments. There is one three-star hotel and 8 high-grade hotels including 2 hot-spring hotels. The natural hot spring has a temperature of 970C and contains over 20 mineral elements such as calcium, sodium, magnesium, iron, sulfur, etc. It has been proved to have marked curative effects against rheumatism, hypertension, arthritis, dermatitis, etc. It's a good place for refreshment and recuperating.

There are many tourism scenes in Zhaoyuan. Luoshan National Forest Park is one of the famous attractions with its lofty mountain, green trees, curving and suspending path, and beautiful legend. In recent years, Zhaoyuan has intensively invested in the construction of tourism attractions and has developed the Golden Beach Holiday Village, Western Hill Park, Linglong Park, etc. Traveling agencies have explored tourism lines for the tours of gold mines, enjoyment of the scenery of Luoshan Forest Park, swim in the shallow sea, sunbathe on the golden beach and enjoy the hot spring baths.
